Selecting a book card opens the reader app. Depending on the book, the first page may be the table of contents or the first chapter. The Living Map can appear after the table of contents and shows the reader position, especially in multi-plotline books. In a branching book, the table of contents and Living Map initially show the story up to the first split. After the reader chooses a path, both evolve with the selected storyline. The top menu adjusts text size, translated-word size, translation language, English level, and feedback options. English level helps hide words the reader already knows. Translation currently works from English into the selected language and is word-by-word rather than contextual. Readers can choose an alternative meaning, add a translation, or mark a word as known. A word marked as learnt is no longer translated in the text, and the reader language level grows as more words are marked known. The reader app also lets eligible draft readers send feedback to the author that remains linked to selected text. To leave feedback, select text and use the Leave feedback control beside the selection.
