Terminology
Artifact
An artifact encompasses any piece of information that a writer opts to incorporate into their book, whether directly or indirectly. This encompasses various forms such as text, images, sound recordings, video clips, character and location descriptions, and depictions of social environments. Essentially, an artifact is any material that holds significance for a writer, meriting inclusion in their creative work.
Lineage
Artifact Lineage is the evolving chain of related artifacts across the books in a series. It allows writers to carry characters, locations, images, clips, and other creative materials from one book to the next while preserving their earlier versions and development history.
Artifact Management Board - AMB
The tool is crafted to centralize all of a writer's artifacts and offer a range of management features. Through graphical representation and interconnected links between artifacts, writers can effortlessly access and reference the comprehensive details they've gathered. This tool serves as a catalyst, enabling writers to maintain organization and focus on the creative dimensions of writing, steering clear of being entangled in the mundane tasks of material management and organization.
Graphical Storyliner - GS
The Graphical Storyliner is a dynamic tool that furnishes a visual representation of the entire plot of a book, encompassing major details and events. Writers can effortlessly survey all characters and events through the plot, manipulate chapters, text, and artifacts, and engage in communication with co-authors or readers. With a rich outlining feature, writers can seamlessly plan their entire work and make real-time changes. This tool serves as a guiding compass, aiding writers in navigating through their book and refining their plot in a more intuitive and visually appealing manner.
Text Editor - TE
The Text Editor stands as a crucial yet often inconspicuous component within our triad of tools. Despite its outward resemblance to a typical text editor, we've seamlessly integrated advanced artificial intelligence and deep stylistic analysis to elevate its capabilities. This tool not only provides linguistic and stylistic analysis but also furnishes text statistics and an AI co-writer to aid in the creative process. Despite its seemingly minor role, the Text Editor holds the potential to profoundly impact a writer's work.
Translation Tool - TT
The Translation Tool helps readers learn a language while reading. Instead of translating an entire chapter, it lets you translate unfamiliar words (and short phrases) inline, so you can keep the story flow and understand meaning in context.
This is not text translation. It does not rewrite the author's work into another language. It's a reading aid for vocabulary building and language practice, use it when you need it, ignore it when you don't.
Series
A book series is a literary collection consisting of multiple books, each related to the others and typically featuring recurring characters, themes, or settings. These books are intentionally ordered in a sequence, with each installment contributing to an overarching narrative or theme. The series format allows authors to explore more extensive storylines, character development, and thematic elements than a single book might permit. While individual books within a series can often be read independently, the sequential arrangement enhances the reader's experience by providing a cohesive and interconnected narrative across multiple volumes. Variations within a series may include different perspectives, timelines, or story arcs, offering readers diverse and engaging content within the overarching framework of the series.
Book
A book is a compilation of specific chapters arranged in a sequence determined by the author. The book, as a cohesive unit, may feature several sets of chapters, each representing different variations (refer to plot variation). Significantly, the book is assigned its own sequence number within the broader series to maintain order and continuity across the series.
Chapter
A chapter is composed of specific grains (see Grain) arranged in a sequence defined by the author. Within the book, each chapter is assigned its own sequence number, contributing to the overall organization and structure of the narrative.
Topic
A topic is an integral component of the work plan and outlining process. While it remains invisible in the published text, it holds visibility within the GS (Graphical Storyliner). Topics play a crucial role in structuring and planning the content, guiding the narrative development in a way that enhances the overall coherence of the work.
Grain
A grain is the smallest and independent piece of information within a chapter. In essence, chapters are composed of grains arranged in a specific sequence. Grains can take the form of text or raster pictures, and authors have the flexibility to alter the placement of grains within a chapter. The app independently monitors editorial access to each grain. Grains are visible in TE (Text Editor) within the chapters of books.
Plot variation
A plot is a distinctive sequence of chapters that constitutes a variation within the book. In a basic scenario, a single plot variation in the book (as found in ordinary old-style printed books) is designated by the number "0" or "base." Plot variations can encompass either the entirety of the chapters within a book or a specific portion of it. Each plot variation contributes to shaping the narrative dynamics and thematic development within the broader context of the book.
Bifurcation point or fork
The bifurcation point is the specific juncture within a book where the plot diverges, leading to distinct variations in the narrative. It marks the critical moment where the storyline takes different paths, influencing the development of the plot and shaping the subsequent variations within the broader context of the book or series.
Reader
A reader is essentially a consumer of book content. Beyond consuming content, readers play an active role in the life of a book by providing feedback and participating through avenues such as fan clubs, posts, blogs, and other interactive platforms. This engagement enriches the reading experience, fostering a dynamic relationship between the reader and the literary work.
Writer
A writer is an individual who engages in the craft of writing books, whether as a professional or amateur. A distinctive feature is that the writer holds an account within the system, highlighting their active involvement in utilizing the platform for literary endeavors. This account serves as a gateway for the writer to access and utilize various tools and features within the system to enhance their creative process.
Author
The author is a writer who has either completed the writing of a book or is actively engaged in the writing process. Notably, the author derives benefits from the sale of their book on the platform, encompassing a connection between their creative work and the potential for commercial success through book sales. This distinction emphasizes the dual role of the author as both the creator of the content and a participant in the platform's bookselling aspects.
Coauthor
A Coauthor is a writer who collaborates and contributes to the book authored by the primary Author. This collaboration can occur either voluntarily or for compensation. The Coauthor plays a role in shaping and enhancing the content of the book, contributing their skills and expertise to the collaborative creative process led by the primary Author.
